Program Possibility: Hold a Bone Marrow Drive to help leukemia patients find their life-saving match. As a student campus leader, a great activity to unite a group of students and create awareness on campus is to hold (or see if a student is interested in holding) a bone marrow drive! There are many leukemia patients who are searching for the bone marrow match, and college students all over the U.S. are joining the fight against cancer by holding drives of their own. The process takes a little planning, some teamwork, and is perfect for a community service event. RAs who hold the drive are offered the opportunity to join the Marketing and Donor Recruitment Fellowship Program for the 2010-2011 school year. DKMS, the largest bone marrow donor center in the world, is looking for college undergraduates to hold fun, meaningful drives (which only last a few hours) in order to register as many people as possible to become a bone marrow donor. The process is just taking a simple check swab! Become a leader, make a difference and help broaden awareness about done marrow registration with DKMS and recruit 100,000 new bone marrow donors. Your efforts of recruiting donors will lead to lives being saved. What role would you play?
Holding a drive is an unparalleled opportunity to work directly with a highly successful non-profit, learn how to get people engaged in social good, and save lives – all while gaining leadership and social entrepreneurial skills along the way with a core group of your students!
