Door Tag Idea: Names in Chinese, Origami Cranes and Doves

Submitted by Mandy Gatewood, University of Kentucky

Since Asian themed clothes and decorations are so popular (I've had to make people take down countless Chinese lanterns because of fire hazards!), I thought that my floor could use some external decorations. So on everyone's door, I wrote their name in Chinese with the translation beneath it so everyone would know each other's names. The characters were really beautiful! Then, I got butcher paper and made gigantic origami cranes and doves-- I used the pattern out of an origami book. They were about three feet tall. Then, I taped all of it to the door-- I had to use duct tape on the origami because the paper was so huge and heavy! It took hours and hours to make, but it was worth it-- it looked so cool, and the residents loved it!
