Stories: There Are Teachable Moments Everywhere…
As I walked
out into the hallway on a Monday night to do my rounds I found some of
my residents out there playing a game. As I got close I realized that
they were playing a game that they called Iraqi’s and American’s.
They loaded up a garbage bag with crumpled up paper and then tied it shut.
The American’s would then throw it at the Iraqi’s and they
would rip it open and make a loud bang noise and throw the paper everywhere.
I had to
sit down with them and help them understand that at times of war we need
to be more sensitive to our surrounding, that people may have relatives,
friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, or just be concerned about the war.
They then
went around and apologized to people with their door open. It turned out
to be a good teachable moment.
